Strickland's problems

Mark Gottlieb predicts in the August 16 Dayton Daily News on page A16 (commentary) about what will happen in the election.

Making political predictions at this advanced stage of an election year is way too easy to be considered respectable work. So, herewith a longer-term prediction:If J. Kenneth Blackwell loses the election for governor, he will be back. But if Ted Strickland loses, he's done for, at least for high office.

At the point of Gottliebs editorial, Strickland was leading in the polls by double digits. So why be worried about Strickland losing? It implies two things, the first of which is nervousness about Strickland's true lead. The second is being able to show what weaknesses Strickland has overcome, which in this case are doubts in the voters minds should he lose.

Both are at play in the commentary, but once again Strickland's friends are nervous about him leading.

Please e-mail the Editor-in-Chief with any questions.

How can you read *THAT*? That's some amazing tea leaves reading you're doing. All it says is that Ken Blackwell's political career won't be over when he wins, but Strickland's most likely will be.

Hardly shocking commentary since Strickland has publicly stated this is the last campaign he'll ever run for except his re-election campaign and Blackwell has not made similar statements.

By the way, how old is that editorial? It's obvoiously before the latest Rasmussen, Zogby, and Gallup polls all show Strickland with a solid lead.

If this is the best you can come up with to rally yourself, you really are desparate for good news...

Actually, I'm painting right now to finance my college, so I DON'T read tea leaves. I prefer to sniff paint fumes and eat paint chips. It's the newest diet fad and I'm coming out with a book soon, so I hope you'll buy it.

Truthfully, I thank you for responding politely with facts and analysis rather than ranting. It makes for a great debate.

Factually, I note in the first sentence that it's an Aug 16 commentary, which makes Gottlieb's piece about 2.5 weeks old.

More to follow - crying baby
Baby in bed now - adding facts

In former posts, I gave Strickland a Pinocchio award for his flip-flops on 2004 nominations, generally, & for his entrance into the governor's race, specifically.

From a somewhat similarly Shermanesque denial, he moves on to the contentment denial, i.e., "I really want this job, so I say I will be at peace with losing. Then I only seem like a pol, rather then a snakey pol." This denial , by the way, crosses party lines.

One question I would enjoy having you answer, is, 'do you think that there was enough election-day voter fraud in 2004 to cost John F. Kerry the state of Ohio's electoral votes?'
